Where to start
Pick a loader first
Fabric and Forge mods don't mix. Choose one loader and only download mods built for it.
Add performance mods early
Sodium and friends make a big difference, especially before you add shaders.
Back up your world
Copy your saves folder before you add or update mods. It takes a minute and saves a world.
Give it enough RAM
Big modpacks need more memory than vanilla, but giving too much can cause stutters too.
Playing with friends? See server hosting. Building farms or nether portals? The nether coordinates and farm rate calculators save you the math.
