Nothing beats outplaying a real person. In a PvP game you’re up against another player, and that player can change the plan at any moment. If you’d rather team up, see the multiplayer list, and for gun-only ranked, try competitive FPS. This guide is all about the fight.
The usual suspects (CS2, Valorant, League, Fortnite, Apex, Overwatch) are all here. I play two of these: Overwatch (Zarya, Master) and WoW (Devastation Evoker, 2849 Blitz). I am building Tingbase in Unity 6 C#. How YuvalGG reviews.
| Game | The fight | Price (official) | What I play |

The two I play
Overwatch
What it is. Free hero shooter. 5v5 role queue. 6v6 Open Queue (max two tanks) continued in Quick Play and Competitive in Blizzard’s Season 16 Director’s Take. Platforms on Battle.net: Windows, Xbox One / Series, PlayStation 4 / 5, Switch. Also on Steam. Battle.net account + phone number required.
Why it fits. A job on an objective is the whole match. I play Zarya: beam, bubbles, grav. Master, 50–60% accuracy. Zarya guide. Games like Overwatch.
Platforms. PC, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch. Cross-play.
Price. Free. Premium Battle Pass sold separately (launch notes: 1,000 coins / about $10 a season).
Who it’s for. Players who want a role, a cart or a point, and a short queue.
Pros
- Roles are readable.
- The range is a real warmup.
- Free client the group can install tonight.
Cons
- Not a bomb site.
- New heroes can sit behind playtime or a purchase.
- A Master border does not transfer to CS2.
World of Warcraft (rated BGs / Blitz)
What it is. Blizzard’s subscription MMO. I play Devastation Evoker Tingyoudied on EU-Ravencrest: Scalecommander, Spatial Paradox, Font of Magic, full Mastery, trinket and interrupt on the scroll wheel. 2849 Blitz, RBG main. Evoker PvP guide. PvP addons. World of Warcraft: visit official site.
Why it fits. Ten people on a node. A kick wins the pile. It is PvP. It is not a shooter.
Platforms. Windows, macOS. Battle.net.
Price. US Battle.net shop (pages I opened): $14.99/month, $13.99/month on 3 months, $12.99/month on 6- or 12-month ($155.88 billed yearly). Midnight expansion sold separately. Region prices move — EU forums posted UK changes for 22 June 2026. Confirm your shop.
Who it’s for. Players who already have a character and a voice channel, and who want a messy 10-man.
Pros
- The fight I actually have numbers for.
- Binds I can describe (scroll-wheel trinket / kick).
- Addons fill the default UI.
Cons
- Subscription plus an expansion.
- A terrible start for a friend who wanted a 30-minute free client.
- Not a 5v5 bomb.
Tingbase
What it is. 3v3 hero shooter, MMO-style hotbar. Tank, DPS, or Healer. Arenas, deathmatch, co-op waves. Steam. Unity 6, C#.
Why it fits. It is the fight I am building. Not a ladder you can queue tonight.
Platforms. PC / Windows.
Price. Wishlist / coming soon.
Who it’s for. People who want a smaller team and a hotbar.
Pros
- Roles are printed on the Steam page.
- 3v3 is a different size from 5v5 and 10-man.
- I can tell you how it is edited.
Cons
- Not live ranked.
- No official player count to quote.
- Co-op waves are PvE on the same page — the PvP half is arenas and deathmatch.
More worth trying
Counter-Strike 2
What it is. Valve, free on Steam. 5v5 bomb. No agents. Money, utility, aim. SteamDB’s public chart has listed an all-time peak of 1,862,531. Counter-Strike 2: Steam page.
Why it fits. The reference gun fight. esports.gg and GamesRoid both keep it.
Platforms. Windows (Steam). No official console client.
Price. Free.
Who it’s for. Players who want identical toolkits and a site.
Pros
- No agent to hide a bad peek.
- Free, huge PC population on Steam charts.
- Utility is the second skill.
Cons
- Steep.
- Cheating is a long, public complaint.
- Not a hero job.
Valorant
What it is. Riot, free. 5v5 site plus agents. PC, PS5, Xbox Series. No PC–console crossplay on the pages I have cited. Released 2 June 2020.
Why it fits. The other bomb-site client, with kits.
Platforms. PC, PS5, Xbox Series.
Price. Free.
Who it’s for. Players who want CS2’s round and Overwatch’s character select.
Pros
- Shared gun pool (writers keep citing Vandal / Phantom).
- Agents are readable jobs.
- Console exists.
Cons
- One life. Overwatch will spawn you.
- Crossplay is not the Overwatch kind.
Rainbow Six Siege X
What it is. Ubisoft. Operators, a building you open. Siege X: 10 June 2025. Free Access: Quick Match, Unranked, Dual Front. Ranked and Siege Cup need a paid unlock.
Why it fits. Named kits, one life, information. A drone is not a bubble.
Platforms. PC, Xbox, PlayStation.
Price. Free Access for listed modes. Paid for Ranked. Confirm Ubisoft.
Who it’s for. A five-stack that will drone and talk.
Pros
- Destruction is the map.
- Free door exists.
- Dual Front is 6v6 on current-gen / PC.
Cons
- Slower than Overwatch.
- Operator knowledge is the wall.
Marvel Rivals
What it is. NetEase, free, 6v6, third person, team-ups, destructible maps. Launch 5–6 December 2024. Steam, Epic, PS5, Xbox Series. 33 heroes free at launch.
Why it fits. The other hero-objective client. See the Overwatch-likes page.
Platforms. PC, PS5, Xbox Series. Cross-play on Steam’s list.
Price. Free.
Who it’s for. Six friends who will not pay first.
Pros
- Default 6v6.
- Team-ups are a named mechanic.
- Free heroes at launch.
Cons
- Third person.
- Not my Zarya queue.
- Seasons move.
Rocket League
What it is. Psyonix / Epic. Cars, a ball, a short match. Free-to-play on Epic, also listed on other storefronts Epic supports. No pay-to-win car speed on the long-standing model: cosmetics, not stats.
Why it fits. A readable sport. esports.gg keeps it on the 2026 multiplayer table.
Platforms. PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch.
Price. Free.
Who it’s for. A group that wants 5–10 minutes and a ball.
Pros
- Rules fit in one sentence.
- Cross-play is the usual path for mixed groups.
- Short session.
Cons
- Aerials are a second game.
- Not a gun fight.
Street Fighter 6
What it is. Capcom. One-on-one. Modern controls exist so a new player can throw specials without the classic motion. Steam, PlayStation, Xbox.
**Two players, one couch. Fighting-game lists keep it as the current Street Fighter.
Platforms. PC, PS4 / PS5, Xbox One / Series — confirm Capcom / Steam.
Price. Paid base game. Modern controls are in the product, not a second SKU. Confirm Steam.
Who it’s for. Two people who will sit in training mode.
Pros
- Modern controls are an official on-ramp.
- One-on-one is honest.
- Training mode is the product.
Cons
- A group of five cannot queue this as a team.
- Not a hero objective.
Fortnite
What it is. Epic. Free. Battle royale plus other rooms (Zero Build, Save the World as a separate purchase historically, Lego / Racing modes on Epic’s later client). Build vs Zero Build is the fork.
Why it fits. The shrinking map most groups can launch for $0.
Platforms. PC, consoles, Switch, mobile — Epic’s current list. Confirm.
Price. Free BR. Cosmetics and a battle pass.
Who it’s for. A mixed-skill group that will not buy a game.
Pros
- Zero Build removes the piece that splits friends.
- Free, everywhere.
- Short-ish matches.
Cons
- I do not play BRs for a scored review.
- The island is not a payload.
- Modes around the BR can confuse a first launch.
Apex Legends
What it is. Respawn / EA. Free. Squads, legends, a ring. PC plus consoles including Switch on GameSpot’s card.
Why it fits. Kits plus a BR. Ranked exists.
Platforms. PC, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch.
Price. Free.
Who it’s for. A trio that wants movement and a legend.
Pros
- Legends are jobs.
- Movement is the ceiling.
- Free.
Cons
- Dead is usually dead.
- Not a 5v5 site.
PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS
What it is. Krafton. The plainer gun, the same closing circle. Free on Steam for years after the paid launch. Steam charts still show a large concurrent (SteamDB’s PvP table listed it near the top the day I opened it).
Why it fits. BR without a legend kit.
Platforms. PC (Steam). Console editions exist as separate products; confirm.
Price. Free on Steam.
Who it’s for. Players who want the circle and a rifle, not a kit.
Pros
- The gun is the identity.
- Free Steam client.
- Still populated on public charts.
Cons
- Older loop; the map is the content.
- Not a hero job.
Call of Duty: Warzone
What it is. Activision. Free BR / Gulag. Separate from Black Ops 6 multiplayer, which is a paid short-map game (launched 25 October 2024).
Why it fits. The free Call of Duty fight. A Gulag is a second life the others may not give you.
Platforms. PC, PlayStation, Xbox.net / Steam / console pages.
Price. Free.
Who it’s for. A group that already owns a Call of Duty habit and wants $0.
Pros
- Gulag is a named second chance.
- Free.
- Same gun family as the paid multiplayer.
Cons
- Large install.
- Not Overwatch.
League of Legends
What it is. Riot. Free 5v5 MOBA. Lanes, a nexus, a draft. PC. Wild Rift is the mobile cousin — a different client.
Why it fits. esports.gg’s 2026 table keeps it. The fight is a 40-minute draft, not a cart.
Platforms. Windows (Riot Client). macOS support has existed.
Price. Free. Champions unlock through play or purchase.
Who it’s for. Five people who will accept a draft and a long match.
Pros
- The biggest named 5v5 MOBA in the West.
- Free.
- Roles are readable (top / jungle / mid / bot / support).
Cons
- Session length is not a quick play.
- Toxicity is a public, long-running complaint.
Dota 2
What it is. Valve, free on Steam. 5v5 lanes. Every hero available from match one — that is the official difference from League’s unlocks. Thousands of hours before it feels like yours, on every guide that is honest.
Why it fits. The other lane game. Steam charts keep it next to CS2.
Platforms. Windows, macOS, Linux (Steam).
Price. Free.
Who it’s for. Players who want the full hero pool on day one and will accept the curve.
Pros
- Free, huge Steam concurrent historically.
- The deepest item game in the genre.
Cons
- I would not start a friend here.
- Not a shooter and not a battleground.
How to pick the fight
esports.gg’s 2026 table has 25 multiplayer names. You do not need 25. You need the fight the group can launch.
- A job on a point: Overwatch (mine) or Marvel Rivals (closest named 6v6).
- Ten people, a node, a kick: WoW Blitz. Subscription.
- Five identical rifles, a bomb: CS2.
- Five rifles plus kits: Valorant.
- A building: Siege X.
- Cars: Rocket League.
- Two people, one desk: Street Fighter 6.
- The map shrinks: Fortnite, Apex, PUBG, Warzone.
- Lanes: League or Dota 2. Dota unlocks every hero on day one. I would not start a friend there.
- Leave with the loot: Tarkov, Hunt, ARC Raiders — PvPvE, a different genre with its own lists.
Session length is the second filter. Rocket League and Overwatch quick play fit an hour. League and a rated BG do not. Minecraft is on the multiplayer page because it is a world, not a fight.
I would not start a friend in rated Blitz on my Evoker build. I would start them in Overwatch quick play, Rocket League, Fortnite Zero Build, or Street Fighter 6 Modern controls.
Opening one tonight
- My fight: Overwatch (Zarya) or WoW Blitz (Evoker).
- Free 5v5 gun: CS2 or Valorant.
- Hero objective, not mine: Marvel Rivals.
- Cars: Rocket League.
- 1v1: Street Fighter 6.
- The map shrinks: Fortnite, Apex, PUBG, Warzone.
- Lanes: League or Dota 2.
- The thing I am making: wishlist Tingbase.
Prices and peaks move. Queue the fight the group can launch. A 2849 and a Master border are not transferable. The bind is.

Common questions
What is a PvP game?
PvP means player versus player, so you're competing against other real people instead of the computer. That makes every match different because your opponents adapt. If you want to team up against the game instead, look at co-op games.
What PvP games do you play?
I play Overwatch as Zarya at Master rank and World of Warcraft PvP as a Devastation Evoker with a 2849 Blitz peak. I'm also building my own 3v3 hero shooter, Tingbase, in Unity 6.
What are the best PvP games on PC?
Counter-Strike 2 and Valorant for tactical shooters, Overwatch and Marvel Rivals for hero shooters, WoW rated battlegrounds for big MMO fights, and Rocket League for something completely different. Pick the style of fight you enjoy most.
What is the best PvP game for beginners?
Overwatch Quick Play, Rocket League, Fortnite Zero Build or Street Fighter 6 with Modern controls are all easy to pick up. They have simple rules and quick matches, so you learn fast without feeling punished.
What is the difference between PvP and PvPvE?
In PvPvE games you fight both computer enemies and other players in the same match, usually trying to escape with loot. Escape from Tarkov, Hunt: Showdown 1896 and ARC Raiders are popular examples.
What are the best free PvP games?
Counter-Strike 2, Valorant, Overwatch, Marvel Rivals, Fortnite, Apex Legends, PUBG, Warzone, League of Legends, Dota 2 and Rocket League are all free to play. Rainbow Six Siege X has a free access tier too.
