Shopping for an RTX 5080 gaming PC? Make sure the listing names the desktop GeForce RTX 5080 — 16 GB GDDR7, official from $999, 360 W, 850 W system rec, 304 mm Founders length. Two finished configs worth a look: NZXT Player Three at $3,999 and Corsair Vengeance a7500 at $4,299.99, both with a 9800X3D. I haven’t bought either. I play on a custom desktop RTX 5080 + AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2, on a 1080p 240 Hz and a 1440p 155 Hz monitor.

If you’re ready to buy, the prebuilt and custom guides cover both paths. Here’s what “5080 PC” has to mean.

Quick picks

  • The card: NVIDIA RTX 5080. 10,752 CUDA cores, 16 GB GDDR7, 256-bit, boost 2.62 GHz, 360 W, 2-slot FE, 3× DP + 1× HDMI, 850 W rec. Street cards have been well above $999 in 2026. Confirm the listing. Amazon search
  • Finished 5080 + 9800X3D, 4 TB: NZXT Player Three. $3,999. Specs updated 28 May 2026 on NZXT’s page. 2-year warranty listed. NZXT. Amazon search
  • Finished 5080 + 9800X3D, Corsair case: Vengeance a7500. $4,299.99. 32 GB, 2 TB, Windows 11 Home. Corsair. Amazon search
  • Build it: custom gaming PC when parts + Windows undercut those numbers. That is the path I took.

The short version: desktop 5080, two sticks of 32 GB, a named 850 W PSU, Windows in the price. More PC build guides.

The card the title has to name

Desktop RTX 5080, 16 GB. A “5080 Laptop GPU” in a NUC or a laptop is a different, cooler-limited chip. I do not pretend that was this card.

NVIDIA’s own display block supports high Hertz over DisplayPort 2.1b / HDMI 2.1b with DSC. That is headroom. I feed a 1080p 240 Hz and a 1440p 155 Hz monitor. 4K isn’t my play screen, so I won’t sell you a 4K promise.

Partner cards are often longer than 304 mm. Measure against the case. H5 Flow prints 410 mm; Lancool 216 prints 392 mm.

The chip only has to keep it fed

The 5080 draws the frames. The CPU keeps the game moving. At 1440p with a high refresh rate, both the card and the X3D chip matter. That is why this box has an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2, and why Player Three / a7500 shipping a 9800X3D is the pairing I would want.

A listing that shouts a 16-core and hides the GPU went to the wrong half. Best CPU for gaming.

NVIDIA’s marketing charts are NVIDIA’s test beds. Mine are not published.

Memory, drive, PSU

  • 32 GB, two sticks. Player Three prints DDR5-6000. One DIMM wearing a 32 GB label is the miss.
  • 2 TB NVMe is the comfortable floor; NZXT’s 4 TB is the nicer number.
  • 850 W, named, with the native 12V-2x6 / 12VHPWR or the 3×8-pin adapter NVIDIA describes. A “850 W” sticker on a no-name unit is not the part.
  • Windows 11 Home (or Pro) in the finished price. Add a license before you call DIY cheaper.

5080 vs 5060 vs a laptop chip

A budget 5060 is 8 GB, 145 W, 550 W system, from $299. A 5080 Laptop GPU in a ROG NUC or a thin 16-inch is also not this card.

If the listing says “up to RTX 5080” on a family page, walk. You are buying one SKU.

Thermals: NVIDIA’s FE max GPU temp is 88°C. A mesh airflow case is the box around 360 W. I will say the case has to print a length over the card you bought.

After it arrives (or POSTs)

  1. Confirm the NVIDIA App shows RTX 5080 and 16 GB.
  2. Game Ready driver from NVIDIA, not a six-month image.
  3. Set both panels to the Hertz they can do.
  4. Put a real mouse on the pad. I aim with a PRO 2 at 1200 DPI.

If a finished tower does not POST, use the one company you paid for. That is the product.

What the listing has to show

  • GeForce RTX 5080, desktop, 16 GB, in the title
  • CPU model, not “Ryzen 7”
  • 32 GB as two sticks, speed printed
  • SSD capacity
  • PSU make and model, ≥ the 850 W rec, correct plug
  • GPU length vs the case
  • Windows edition
  • Return window and who you call
  • Today’s price next to a parts total for the same card

Prices move. The card is the product. RGB is not.

Common questions

What is an RTX 5080 gaming PC?

It's a desktop with NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 5080, a card with 16 GB of GDDR7 memory and an official starting price of $999. Note that the laptop RTX 5080 is a different, slower chip; I play on a desktop RTX 5080 with a Ryzen 9 9950X3D2.

What CPU should I pair with an RTX 5080?

The Ryzen 7 9800X3D ($479) is the best pairing for gaming, especially at high refresh rates. Choose a 16-core 9950X3D only if you also render or stream on the same PC.

Is 32 GB of RAM enough for an RTX 5080 gaming PC?

Yes. 32 GB in two sticks is the standard for high-end gaming PCs and is what RTX 5080 prebuilts like the NZXT Player Three ship with.

What power supply does an RTX 5080 need?

An 850 W PSU. NVIDIA rates the card at 360 W and recommends 850 W for the whole system, ideally a quality unit with a native PCIe Gen 5 power cable.

What is a good RTX 5080 prebuilt in 2026?

The NZXT Player Three ($3,999) and Corsair Vengeance a7500 ($4,299.99) both pair the RTX 5080 with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and 32 GB of RAM. Prices change often, so check the current configurator; I built my own instead.
