Shopping for a gaming chair? Pick one you can size to your body, not one with a racing stripe. These are the two I’d look at first: Secretlab TITAN Evo from $519 (Small or Regular, NEO Hybrid Leatherette) or $569 (XL), and the Herman Miller Embody Gaming Chair at $2,395. The fit test below works for any chair.

A lot of “best gaming chair” lists lead with RGB bucket seats. Here’s a five-minute sit test you can do in any store.

Quick picks

  • Named gaming chair with a size chart: Secretlab TITAN Evo. Small / Regular from $519 leatherette, $539 SoftWeave Plus; XL from $569 / $589. NAPA leather from $999 (Small/Regular) when listed. Comes with a magnetic head pillow. Secretlab TITAN Evo. Amazon search
  • All-day office chair with a gaming SKU: Herman Miller Embody Gaming Chair. Official $2,395. Designed with Logitech G; pixelated seat/back, copper-fused foam in Herman Miller’s copy, seat depth 15–18” in 6 locks (price book). Herman Miller store. Amazon search
  • Skip: untitled “racing” chairs with no size range, no lumbar adjustment, and a 200 lb limit next to a 5080-sized human.

The short version: feet flat, gap behind the knee, lumbar in the small of the back. More gear guides.

Herman Miller’s April 2026 Embody price book is dealer list pricing and is not the same as the $2,395 consumer store number. Use the store page when you buy retail.

  1. Height. Feet flat. Thighs about level. If the desk is then too high, raise the chair and add a footrest. Do not shrug to reach the mouse.
  2. Seat depth. About two to three fingers between the seat edge and the back of your knee. Secretlab sizes the whole shell. Embody adjusts depth 15–18”.
  3. Lumbar. It should sit in the small of the back without a pillow falling out. A pillow is a spare, not a mechanism.
  4. Arms. Elbows near the sides, shoulders down. Arms that only go up and down are half a product. Embody’s copy: 6” vertical and 6” horizontal. Confirm any chair’s arm motion on the spec sheet.
  5. Hours. Sit for twenty minutes, not twenty seconds. If you already numb, the stitch pattern will not save you.

This is setup, not a diagnosis. If you have an injury, use a chair you can try, or a clinician — not a blog.

TITAN Evo

This is the current default “gaming chair” with a real size split.

Pros

  • Official from-prices are printed: $519 / $569 leatherette
  • Small / Regular / XL is more honest than “one bucket”
  • Fabric option is priced, not hidden
  • Easy to wipe if you drink at the desk

Cons

  • Leatherette runs warm. SoftWeave costs more
  • It is still a branded gaming shell. Try before you spend if you can

Embody Gaming Chair

This is the expensive office answer.

Pros

  • $2,395 is a known store number you can compare to four years of cheaper chairs
  • Seat depth and a back that is not a racing halo
  • Herman Miller’s own price book describes the gaming version as extra foam for a more active sit, still an Embody under it

Cons

  • Four Titan Evos. If you have not sat in one, that is a lot of faith
  • Some store colors showed $2,255 — still not a budget chair
  • No chair fixes a back on its own, and I haven’t sat in this one for a season either

Racing shell vs office chair

A racing chair copies a car seat: high side bolsters, a flat-ish lumbar pillow, a bright stitch. It photographs well behind a headset. It is not automatically better for five hours of Overwatch and a WoW raid.

An office chair in the Embody class is designed around all-day sit time: a back that moves, a seat that changes depth, arms that come inward. You pay $2,395 for that system, not for a RGB strip.

A TITAN Evo sits between them: it is sold as a gaming chair, it has a real size chart, and it costs about what one mid-range GPU used to. That is why it is the default open, not because a bucket seat is “gamer correct.”

If you can sit in a Steelcase or a non-gaming Embody at an office-furniture dealer, do that before you click $2,395 online. I cannot sit in your store. I can tell you a photo of a streamer is not a size chart.

What I would skip

  • No weight rating, or a 200 lb rating you will sit on the edge of
  • Arms that only go up
  • Lumbar that is only a pillow in a box
  • “Ergonomic racing” with no height range in inches
  • A used gas cylinder from a marketplace seller you cannot return after it sinks

The return window is part of the product. Fit is personal. Secretlab and Herman Miller both sell direct; Amazon listings for the same names are sometimes different upholstery or marketplace sellers. Prefer the maker page when the price is this high.

How it meets the rest of the desk

Chair height is a desk problem. IKEA’s BEKANT rectangle adjusts 25⅝–33½”. Flexispot’s E7L lists 25–50.8”. If your chair maxes out below a fixed 30-inch plank, you shrug into the mouse all night. Raise the chair, add a footrest, or lower the desk. Fix desk height first.

Armrests should meet the desk underside or sit just below the top so the PRO 2 (or whatever you aim with) is not a shoulder shrug. I play left-handed. The left arm is the mouse arm. If that armrest is a wide pillow, it blocks the pad. Narrow, inward-moving arms matter more on the mouse side than on the keyboard side.

Desk, mouse, hours

A chair cannot fix a desk that is too high or a mouse you pinch. I play left-handed at 1200 DPI on a PRO 2, with a 1080p 240 Hz and a 1440p 155 Hz monitor, on an RTX 5080 + AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 box. The sessions are long. That is the only first-person chair fact I will use: the sit is long, so height and lumbar matter more than RGB.

Match chair height to desk height. Then leave it.

What the listing has to print

  • Size range or a depth adjustment, in numbers
  • Weight rating
  • Arm motion (up, or up-and-in)
  • Recline lock / tilt
  • Upholstery and the return window
  • Today’s price, not a “from” that only exists in a leftover color

If those lines are missing, it is furniture with a headset in the photo.

Common questions

What is the best gaming chair in 2026?

The best chair is the one that fits your body: feet flat, a small gap behind your knees, and lumbar support in the small of your back. Two strong options are the Secretlab TITAN Evo from $519 and the Herman Miller Embody Gaming Chair at $2,395.

Is a gaming chair better than an office chair?

Not automatically. The racing-seat look is mostly style, while good office chairs like the Embody are built for sitting all day. Either can work as long as the height and lumbar support fit you.

How high should my gaming chair be?

Set it so your feet are flat and your thighs are roughly level. If your desk feels too high after that, raise the chair and add a footrest. Your elbows should rest near your sides without shrugging.

What size Secretlab TITAN Evo should I get?

Small fits up to about 5'6", Regular fits 5'7" to 6'2", and XL fits 5'11" to 6'9" and 175 to 395 lb. Secretlab recommends going larger if you're between sizes.

Is the Herman Miller Embody Gaming Chair worth $2,395?

It is if you sit for many hours every day and you've tried one first. It's built for long-term back comfort, but it costs about four times as much as a TITAN Evo, so it's hard to justify for casual sessions.

Should I get a fabric or leatherette gaming chair?

Go fabric if you run hot, and leatherette if you want something easy to wipe clean. Secretlab's SoftWeave Plus fabric starts at $539 for Small or Regular and $589 for XL.
