The best game server host is the plan that names your game, sits near the people who play, and gives you a backup you can download and restore. I run a NeoForge 1.21.1 world — Create 6 + Aeronautics.
Hostinger’s 7 August 2026 comparison lists ten Minecraft-capable hosts from $2.41 to $17.62 a month at the regular Minecraft rate. I use those listed figures next to each official page I opened. Check the renewal price, not just the first month. Minecraft-specific hosting is the deeper Java/RAM cut.
| Host | Listed Minecraft start | Why pick it | NeoForge 1.21.1 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mojang Realms (Java) | $7.99/mo (minecraft.net) | Official, simple, backups | No |
| Apex Hosting | $14.99/mo 4 GB ($11.24 first) | Panel, NeoForge docs, 7-day refund | Yes — ATM10 1.21.1 guide |
| BisectHosting | $5.99/mo | 2,300+ one-click packs, 21 locations | Cheapest start |
| Shockbyte | $3.99/mo | Budget panel, 3,000+ packs claimed | Best NeoForge support |
| Hostinger Game | $6.99/mo | VPS + Game Panel, 100+ titles | Confirm the Minecraft image |
| Nodecraft | $9.98/mo | Save & Swap, 27 locations claimed | Confirm custom jars |
| Host Havoc | $5.00/mo | Owned hardware, support SLA | Confirm loader |
| ScalaCube | $4.00/mo | Unlimited servers per plan (their pitch) | Confirm custom jars |
| GTXGaming | $2.41/mo | Wide catalog, named GHz | Confirm NeoForge version |
| Your own PC | Electricity + uptime | Same LAN, you are the SLA | Yes, if you install it |

What I actually need
A Minecraft tick and a Rust sim are different work. Open the page for the one game you will run.
My pack is Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge: Create 6.0.10, Aeronautics, Big Cannons, Iron’s Spellbooks, Apotheosis, YUNG’s, When Dungeons Arise, Sodium + Iris on the clients, JEI, Jade. We share the instance through the Modrinth App. If a host cannot select NeoForge 1.21.1 and accept a custom jar list, it cannot run this world.
Match versions exactly. The server and every player need the same jars.
What the plan has to show
- Location you can ping from the connection you play on
- CPU model, not “unlimited”
- RAM as a hard number, and what happens when you hit it
- Disk named (NVMe vs SATA vs “storage”)
- Ports already open
- A backup you can start and download without a ticket
- Loader / version for modded Java
- Renewal price and how fast a missed payment deletes the world
A website only sends a page when you ask. A game server streams the world 20 times a second to everyone. Minecraft is 20 ticks a second.
The delay is mostly distance. Ask for a test address. Measure at the hour you play. A steady delay plays better than an average that swings.
Your gaming PC is the client. The server runs on separate hardware.
Create add-ons and world-gen can break saves on update. Keep a modded world from breaking. spark (/spark profiler) when the tick dies — usually a contraption, not the host brand.
The ten options
Mojang Realms (Java)
What it is. Mojang’s official shared world. minecraft.net: Java Realms $7.99 USD / month, you + 10 players, three world slots, friends play free, free backups, 24/7. Cross-play is Java-to-Java (Windows, macOS, Linux). Bedrock Realms is $3.99; Realms Plus is $7.99 — a different edition. Mojang Realms (Java): view realms.
Why it fits. The official simple answer. It is the product I can quote from Mojang without guessing a reseller.
Platforms. Java Realms: Windows, Mac, Linux clients. Not Bedrock consoles.
Price. $7.99/month Java, auto-renew. New-subscriber trial noted on the Realms page. Game sold separately.
Who it’s for. Vanilla or Marketplace-adjacent Java, a small friend list, no custom loader.
Pros
- Official. Friends do not pay.
- Backups and three slots are on the spec sheet.
- No panel to learn.
Cons
- Not NeoForge. This cannot host my pack.
- You + 10 is the cap.
- Less control than a named-game host.
Apex Hosting
What it is. Minecraft-first host (since 2013). Custom panel, one-click packs, Java and Bedrock. Their ATM10 guide (27 April 2026) names Minecraft 1.21.1, NeoForge, Java 21, and 10–16 GB for that kitchen-sink pack. Apex Hosting: view plans.
Why it fits. The NeoForge 1.21.1 paper trail. Hostinger’s table still lists them as the EX-Series / support pick.
Platforms. Browser panel. Java and Bedrock plans.
Price. Official pricing page: 4 GB $14.99/month ($11.24 first month), 6 GB $22.49, 8 GB $27.99. EX Series 16 GB $71.99 recurring ($53.99 first). 7-day money-back on that page.
Who it’s for. A group that will pay for a panel and wants NeoForge in writing.
Pros
- NeoForge 1.21.1 is documented on their own guide.
- Named RAM SKUs, not “unlimited.”
- 7-day refund is printed.
Cons
-
Recurring 4 GB is $14.99, not the first-month ad.
-
EX Series is a different product from the shared 4 GB box.
BisectHosting
What it is. Game host since 2011. Hostinger (Aug 2026): Minecraft from $5.99/month, 100+ games, 21 locations, 2,300+ one-click modpacks, Instance Manager, Ryzen hardware, 24/7 support with a sub-15-minute average they cite. Free game swapping on that writeup. BisectHosting: view plans.
Why it fits. The modpack-library pick every 2026 comparison leads with.
Platforms. Panel in the browser. Many game images.
Price. $5.99/month Minecraft start on Hostinger’s regular-rate table. HostedGG has cited a $2.99 1 GB door — that is a different SKU. Confirm bisecthosting.com. ARK and Palworld are priced higher on Hostinger’s note ($29.99 / $17.99).
Who it’s for. A custom pack or a one-click list, if the location is near the group.
Pros
- Pack library is the pitch.
- Many locations.
- Game swap without a second rent, on their copy.
Cons
-
Confirm NeoForge 1.21.1 on the live dropdown before you pay.
-
Support averages are theirs, not a measurement I took.
Shockbyte
What it is. Host since 2013. Hostinger: Minecraft from $3.99/month, 60+ games, 3,000+ one-click packs claimed (CurseForge, FTB, Technic, ATLauncher), new control panel, 99.9% uptime SLA, 3-day money-back. Official partnerships with Rust, Jagex (Dragonwilds), and Cfx.re (FiveM / RedM) on that article.
Why it fits. The budget door. MC-Servers and HostedGG both treat them as the cheap Minecraft row.
Platforms. Panel. Java / Bedrock / other games.
Price. $3.99/month Minecraft regular start on Hostinger’s table. Promotional first months are lower; read the renewal.
Who it’s for. A vanilla or light pack on a tight budget, after you test a backup.
Pros
- Lowest named Minecraft start on that 10-host table.
- Pack installer is the product.
- SLA + 3-day refund are printed there.
Cons
- Hostinger flags promo vs recurring, and reports of weak heavy-mod performance.
- Smaller game catalog than Bisect / PingPerfect on that table.
- Confirm NeoForge 1.21.1 and a downloadable backup.
Hostinger Game Hosting
What it is. VPS-shaped game panel on AMD EPYC + NVMe. Their own 2026 article: from 1 vCPU / 4 GB to 8 vCPU / 32 GB, 100+ titles, Hostinger Agent, weekly backups, dedicated IP, DDoS, 30-day money-back. Four regions (Asia, Europe, North America, South America).
Why it fits. A named CPU family and a VPS isolation story, not a mystery node.
Platforms. Game Panel. Debian 12 only.
Price. Minecraft start $6.99/month on that article. Confirm the live plan builder.
Who it’s for. People who want a VPS with a game image, and will accept Debian 12.
Pros
- Named EPYC + NVMe.
- 30-day refund.
- Multiple games on one box.
Cons
- Location changes may need a reinstall (their drawback).
- Confirm the Minecraft loader, not just “Minecraft.”
Nodecraft
What it is. Hostinger: from $9.98/month, 74 games, 27 locations, Save & Swap (change the title, keep files). Official studio partnerships are their differentiator on that writeup.
Why it fits. The rotate-the-game host. A group that plays Valheim this month and Minecraft next.
Platforms. Panel with many game images.
Price. $9.98/month Minecraft start on Hostinger’s table. Confirm nodecraft.com.
Who it’s for. A group that switches titles and will pay for that swap.
Pros
- Save & Swap is a named feature.
- Location count is the highest on that table after GameServers.
- Partnerships can mean a supported image.
Cons
- Higher Minecraft start than Shockbyte / Bisect on that table.
- Confirm custom NeoForge jars, not only one-click.
Host Havoc
What it is. Hostinger: from $5.00/month, 30+ games, 13 locations, owned hardware, support response under 10 minutes on their SLA copy.
Why it fits. The “we own the boxes” row. Fewer titles, a hardware claim you can ask them to name.
Platforms. Panel.
Price. $5.00/month Minecraft start on that table. Confirm hosthavoc.com.
Who it’s for. A single game, if they name the CPU and the city.
Pros
- Owned hardware is a clearer sentence than “cloud.”
- Support time is specific.
- Mid-price on the table.
Cons
- Smaller catalog.
- Confirm NeoForge 1.21.1.
ScalaCube
What it is. Hostinger: from $4.00/month, 16 games, 3 regions, unlimited servers per plan on their pitch.
Why it fits. The split-a-plan row. A creative world and a test world on one invoice — if the fine print matches.
Platforms. Panel.
Price. $4.00/month Minecraft start on that table. Confirm scalacube.com.
Who it’s for. Someone who wants two instances without two bills, and will read RAM split.
Pros
- Low start.
- Unlimited-servers pitch (verify RAM, not the slogan).
- Simple catalog.
Cons
- 16 games. Not a Rust/ARK supermarket.
- Three regions — location may lose.
- Confirm NeoForge and a downloadable backup.
GTXGaming
What it is. Hostinger: from $2.41/month, 177 games, 20+ locations, 5.7 GHz hardware on their copy.
Why it fits. The wide-catalog, named-GHz door. Ask what a $2.41 box actually is (RAM, cores, oversell).
Platforms. Panel. Very large game list.
Price. $2.41/month Minecraft start on that table. Confirm gtxgaming.co.uk (or the live domain).
Who it’s for. A cheap experiment, after a backup test, if the location is usable.
Pros
- Lowest start on the 10-host table.
- Catalog width.
- A GHz number you can ask them to attach to a SKU.
Cons
- A $2.41 Minecraft plan is not 16 GB of Create.
- Confirm renewal and oversell.
Your own PC
What it is. The machine already on the desk. Java + NeoForge installed locally. Port forward or a tunnel. The RTX 5080 + AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 box is the client I play on; it can also be the server for an evening.
Why it fits. Zero vendor. Full control. The SLA is whether you left it on.
Platforms. Whatever OS you installed Java on.
Price. Electricity, ISP, your time. No monthly host invoice.
Who it’s for. Two friends for a session, same region, same evening.
Pros
- Any jar I want, including this pack.
- No renewal ad.
- Instant file access.
Cons
- The computer has to stay on.
- If I play on it, the tick shares the box with the 5080.
- DDoS, sleep, and a power cut are your problem.
- Not how you leave a world up all week.
A generic VPS (Hetzner, OVH, Contabo — names the VPS lists keep) is the middle: you install Java yourself. Cheaper per GB at scale, no game panel.
A backup you can take with you
- A copy that protects the host is not your world folder.
- A backup you cannot start without a ticket is a hope.
- A backup you cannot download exists only while you pay.
- A copy on the same machine is a copy.
Ask how many are kept, and whether cancelling deletes them. Restore one in the first week. If that takes an hour and no ticket, you can leave.
Do not pay for a year on a host you have not run for a month. Lifetime plans are a red flag: the machine still costs money every month.
Have people join, play the named game, then restore the backup. If the airship loads and the tick holds, you bought the right product. If the panel cannot print NeoForge 1.21.1, you did not.

Common questions
What is the best game server host?
The one that supports your game, has a server location close to your players, and lets you download and restore backups. Location matters more than raw specs for how smooth it feels.
How much RAM does a modded Minecraft server need?
Much more than vanilla. A heavy kitchen-sink pack like All the Mods 10 is commonly given 10 to 16 GB, while smaller packs need less.
Can I host a game server on my own PC?
Yes, for casual sessions with friends. The PC has to stay on while people play, and hosting while you play on the same machine costs some performance.
Does Minecraft Realms support mods?
No. Java Realms runs official Minecraft with a small set of features, so for NeoForge or other modpacks you need a regular server host.
