Reaction time

I do not publish a reaction-time number of my own. This pad is the same kind of clock as the tools reaction test: color change to click, in this tab. Use it to see the spread, not to invent a rank.

Score maps 160 ms to 100 and 450 ms to 0, from the median of 5 valid clicks. Early clicks void that trial. This is the wait from the color change to a pointer-down in this tab.

Common questions

Is this an accurate reaction time test?

It's accurate for your setup. It measures the time from the screen turning blue to your click, which includes your monitor, browser and mouse delay. That's why online results are usually a bit slower than lab tests.

How is the reaction time score calculated?

Your score is based on the median of five valid clicks. 160 ms earns a perfect 100 and 450 ms scores 0. Clicking too early doesn't count toward your result.

Where is my reaction time high score saved?

In your browser's local storage, so it stays on your device. Clearing your browser's site data will reset it.

Does a 240 Hz monitor improve reaction time?

A little. At 240 Hz the screen updates every ~4 ms instead of ~17 ms at 60 Hz, so you see the color change sooner and can shave a few milliseconds off your time.
