FOV converter
Convert a field of view between horizontal and vertical degrees, and between 4:3, 16:9, 16:10, and 21:9. Overwatch’s slider is 16:9 horizontal FOV (80–103). CS2 is fixed at 90° horizontal on 4:3 (about 106.26° on 16:9). Valorant is fixed at 103° horizontal on 16:9. Other games are omitted when the published number is not confirmed.
Confirmed range 80–103. Other titles are omitted.
Video menu Field of View is horizontal degrees at 16:9. The slider runs 80–103.
| Aspect | Horizontal FOV | Vertical FOV |
|---|---|---|
| 4:3 | 86.63° | 70.53° |
| 16:9 | 103.00° | 70.53° |
| 16:10 | 97.06° | 70.53° |
| 21:9 | 117.56° | 70.53° |
How the conversion works
The relationship is trigonometry on a perspective projection. With aspect = width ÷ height, and angles in radians for the functions:
vFOV = 2 × atan( tan(hFOV / 2) / aspect )
hFOV = 2 × atan( tan(vFOV / 2) × aspect )
Hor+ keeps the vertical FOV and lets horizontal FOV grow or shrink with the aspect. Vert− keeps the horizontal FOV and changes the vertical. CS2 follows Hor+ from a 4:3 90° base. Overwatch and Valorant are converted from a 16:9 horizontal number with the same Hor+ rule so the vertical angle stays put.
Examples: 90° horizontal at 4:3 is 73.74° vertical and 106.26° horizontal at 16:9. 103° horizontal at 16:9 is 70.53° vertical. 21:9 in the table is exactly 21 ÷ 9. A 3440 × 1440 panel is a little wider (3440 ÷ 1440); use Custom width × height for that pair.
FOV is the window, not the turn. A full circle on the pad is still a full circle after you change the slider. Measure that on the cm/360 calculator. Sensitivity between games lives on the sensitivity converter.
Common questions
What is the difference between horizontal and vertical FOV?
Horizontal FOV is how wide your view is from left to right, and vertical FOV is how tall it is from top to bottom. On a given aspect ratio, one can be converted into the other.
What is the FOV range in Overwatch?
Overwatch's Field of View slider goes from 80 to 103, measured horizontally on a 16:9 screen. Most competitive players use 103.
What FOV does Valorant use?
Valorant has a fixed 103° horizontal FOV at 16:9, with no slider to change it.
What FOV does CS2 use?
CS2 uses a fixed 90° horizontal FOV on 4:3, which works out to about 106° horizontal on a 16:9 screen.
Does FOV change my sensitivity?
No. FOV changes how wide the picture looks, but the mouse distance for a full 360° turn stays the same.
