Minecraft Java 26.4 Snapshot 6

Source: Minecraft — 26.4 Snapshot 6

Mojang’s Java Team posted Snapshot 6 for 26.4 on 27 October 2026. It’s another winter one.

Snow Bricks. Craft them from 2×2 Snow Blocks. They come with Slab, Stair and Wall variants, but unlike the Snapshot 5 Packed Ice Bricks, a Stonecutter can’t make them. They only drop themselves when you mine them with a shovel, and they belong to the Fast Sliding Sulfur Cube archetype.

Cold Sulfur Cube. A new archetype in the special category. It acts like the Fast Sliding archetype, but it floats and turns the water under it into a disk of Frosted Ice as it moves, a lot like Frost Walker. It needs air above the water block, and it only places ice if it starts moving while on the ground. You get it when a Sulfur Cube absorbs a Blue Ice block.

Java memory. Mojang changed the default JVM options. The game now sets its Java heap size automatically from your system RAM, using up to 25% with a maximum of 4 GB.

Smaller changes. Mobs falling through lava may take slightly less fall damage in some cases. All Packed Ice Brick variants now need a pickaxe to drop themselves. Brittle Ice no longer cracks when a Stray stands on it. Ice Crystals got ambient sounds, with a chance to play when there’s packed ice below.

The Data Pack version is now 125.1. The Resource Pack version is now 101.0.

Why it matters

Builders get a full snow brick set for winter builds, and the Cold Sulfur Cube is a new way to get across water without Frost Walker boots. The heap change is the one most players will notice without trying: if you never set RAM in the launcher, the game now picks it for you, capped at 4 GB. If you run a heavy modpack, check how to allocate RAM to Minecraft and set it yourself.

This snapshot is part of the last game drop of 2026, which Mojang tracks on its drop testing page. More Minecraft coverage lives on the Minecraft hub.

How to try the snapshot

Open the Minecraft Launcher, go to Installations, and turn on Snapshots. Mojang warns that testing versions can corrupt worlds, so back up and run it in a separate folder from your main worlds. The Minecraft launcher guide shows how installations work, and most mods won’t run on a snapshot, so keep your modpack on its own installation.
