Bottleneck / FPS estimator

Type your FPS and GPU/CPU usage from one busy moment to see what’s holding you back. Type the FPS, GPU utilization, and CPU utilization from the same busy moment. 95% GPU with a quieter CPU is GPU-bound. 95% CPU with leftover GPU is CPU-bound. Resolution is only how many pixels that scene is drawing — 1440p is 1.78× 1080p, 4K is 4× — not a promised FPS drop.

2,073,600 pixels. 1.00× 1080p.

How the diagnosis works

pixels = width × height
versus 1080p = pixels ÷ (1920 × 1080)

The overlay numbers are yours. NVIDIA App, AMD Adrenalin, and similar overlays print FPS plus GPU and CPU utilization. Read them in a fight, not on the title screen. This tool only labels the pair: GPU pinned, CPU pinned, both loaded, or neither.

Those scores are someone else’s bench, on someone else’s settings, and they go stale. If you want the wait of the FPS you already have, use the frame-time calculator. If the GPU is pinned and the card is hot, the FPS guide is the settings order.

Common questions

Can this tool predict my FPS from my CPU and GPU?

No. Instead of guessing from part names, it uses your real numbers. Enter the FPS, GPU usage and CPU usage from the same busy moment in a game, and it tells you which part is holding you back.

How do I know if I'm GPU-bound?

You're GPU-bound if your GPU usage is at 95% or higher while your CPU stays below 90%. Lowering resolution, render scale or graphics settings is the quickest way to gain FPS.

How do I know if I'm CPU-bound?

You're CPU-bound if your CPU usage is at 95% or higher while your GPU stays below 90%. Lowering resolution won't help much, so check for FPS caps, background apps and CPU-heavy settings instead.

Why does resolution matter for bottlenecks?

Higher resolutions give your GPU more pixels to draw. 1440p has about 1.78 times the pixels of 1080p, and 4K has 4 times as many. That extra work matters a lot when you're GPU-bound and barely at all when you're CPU-bound.

Why are both my CPU and GPU usage low?

Usually something else is limiting your FPS, like a frame cap, VSync or a power limit. Test during an actual fight, not in a menu, to get useful numbers.

Read the overlay first in how to read an FPS counter. A 1% low from that same run is a hitch, not a parts score: what a 1% low is.
