Overwatch Season 5: A Grim Doctrine is live
Source: Overwatch — Feed Your Hunger in Reign of Talon – Season 5
Overwatch Season 5 is here. Here’s what’s new.
Blizzard wrote that Season 5: A Grim Doctrine begins 6 October 2026. The new Support hero is Doctrine. His kit, as Blizzard names it: Eternal Scepter heals allies and damages enemies; drones empower the team with healing and attack speed; Infuse empowers his abilities; his Ultimate redistributes lifeforce (allies get Overhealth, enemy maximum health is limited).
The same post says Sombra moves from Damage to Support. Hotfix heals an ally after a brief cast and can be used while Invisible without immediately breaking stealth. Cyberspace heals allies and applies Weaken.
Roadhog gets a Scrap Gun that fires two bursts per volley and a new Trash Compactor that swallows projectiles and sends an explosive shot back.
The Halloween event is Mystery Madness: Graveyard Games, 6 October–2 November 2026. Blizzard describes it as 5v5 Open Queue with a guaranteed 1-2-2 role composition and a Best-of-3 Control format. You enter as a random hero and gain powers on death. Offerings vote Ashe, Moira, or Winston into the mode.
The first new Escort map in years is Watchpoint: Grímsvötn. Unvaulted Passes bring revised Battle Passes from Seasons 1–15 back. The Overwatch x Shadow Monarch collab ran 6–19 October 2026. Team Drives return 29 October–1 November 2026.
Live patch notes for 6 October 2026 are on Blizzard’s patch-notes page. A later 20 October 2026 note is a bug-fix update (replay codes wiped; “Not so Thankless” and DualSense on PC).
As a Zarya player, I’ll be watching how this season plays out. More in my Zarya guide.
